Budapest 2009
Upon arrival at the hostel, I quickly dropped of my belonging, unpacked my camera and head out in rather poor weather with light drizzle. I walked from the hostel along the banks of the River Danube crossing over the Chain Bridge past the Hungarian Parliament and over the Margaret Bridge before returning to photograph the city from the Buda Castle.

Today I visited the woodland of the Buda Hill to go bird watching. The weather had changed from light drizzle to dense fog making photography and bird watching very difficult. After several hours of walking i head back to the city centre and got the metro to Varosliget Park and Hero’s Square. The poor weather continued and so travelled on the metro taking photography the underground network.

Hoping for sunrise I head to the Buda Castle area again only to be greeted by more dense fog! Today I explored the city spending a lot of the time photographing some of the architectural detail before heading to Memento Park; Hungary preserved rather than destroyed the communist statues that once looked over its squares and boulevards, these statues now stands in Memento Park.

The next stop of the day was quick visit Budapest Zoo and finally after a few days of grey weather a bit of blue sky appeared and I left the zoo early to head to the Buda Castle to photograph the sunset over the city, then head to St Stephen’s Basilica, before heading to the Fishermen’s Bastion to check out the possible shots for tomorrow sunrise.

Despite a little bit of blue sky at sunset, I awoke to a very misty morning, I headed to the Fishermen’s Bastion and Matyas Church (most of which was covered in scaffolding) and took a number of shot and walked around the sleepy streets of the castle district. I then took the metro to Varosliget Park and back to the zoo for another quick visit.

The weather had improved and I walked around much of the city stopping at the St Stephen’s Basilica, Hungarian Parliament and Margaret Island and headed to the Buda Castle for sunset before walking to the Fishermen’s Bastion for some night shots.
With only a few hours before i had to head to the airport I headed up the Gellert Hill hoping for a good sunrise and was not disappointed. The weather quickly changed with the mist drifting back in.
