March 2008

March was a very busy month for me as most of my spare time was taken up preparing for my first exhibition at the Mussel Inn Gallery. I visited Lochwinnoch, Portencross, Ardrossan and made two visit Knapp’s loch and Duchal Castle.

On the 6th I awoke to a heavy covering of snow, I travelled between Kilmaclom and Lochwinnoch, but did not get really any great shots and the roads were far too snowy and icy to go off the main roads. I walked along the cycle track until I reached remains of the Collegiate Church in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. In the afternoon I headed down the coast towards the Portencross and Ardrossan hoping for a great sunset over Arran, only for the sky to fizzle out again. I did see a lot of wildlife including purple sandpiper, turnstone, curlew, redshank, oystercatcher, red-breasted mergansers, goldeneye, wigeon, teal, mallard, eider, grey seal and two barn owls on the journey home.

The 17th saw me returning to a favour place of my, the site of Duchal Castle near Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire to photograph the waterfalls. I walk along the greenwater and Blacketty Water for about 1 mile and reached a series of great waterfalls. During the visit I saw a number of birds including dippers, grey wagtail, siskin, long-tailed tit, woodcock, snipe, buzzard, raven, kestrel and sparrowhawk. Later in the evening I head to Knapps Loch, Kilmacolm for a late sunset. It was extremely cold and colours were not as strong as I had hope for.

On the 27th I returned tof Duchal Castle near Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, with potential for agood sunset I headed to the Knapps Loch, Kilmacolm for the sunset, which was not very colourful, however the clouds and lighting was stunning.
